Polar Plunge Links

The Polar Plunge is February 29.  We have two brave Plungers signed up, KC and Mike B.  Tim is fundraising as a virtual plunger (i.e., not going in).  Please pass along the links and donate to our cause, if you haven't already.

Polio Eradication is RI's big signature cause and the elimination of Polio, with Rotary's major role, will be only the second disease eradicated through human efforts.  Remember that the Gates Foundation matches all gifts 2:1.  Help us make history! To learn more about Rotary’s fight to eradicate Polio, go to www.endpolio.org.

Please share on social media, email, etc.

I also encourage people to attend the Plunge.  It's great so see so many dedicated, slightly crazy Rotarians come together.

According to Mike Bonsey, the best part is lunch at Woodman's afterward.
February Social/Dementia Friendly Training

Our Evening Social Meeting for February will be held on February 26 from 5:30 to 7:30 at Lee Kimball.  The first half beginning at 5:30 will be a Dementia Friendly Training.  Dementia Friendly Reading is an initiative spearheaded by Gregg & Bruce Johnson's DKJ Foundation in partnership with the Town of Reading.  Dementia has touched just about every family.  This training is very good.  Rotary will become the first civic organization in Reading to be training.  We hope to have a good crowd of Rotarians taking the training.

From 6:30 on will be our regular Social meeting with food and beverages.

REF Musical Bingo

One of our community partners, Reading Education Foundation, is hosting Musical Bingo on Friday, March 6 from 7-11 pm at the Wakefield Elks.  Musical Bingo is a lot of fun.  The Kelleys are going, so if you're interested, you can let Tim know.  Or you can reserve your table directly through REF.

Rotary has been the Sponsor of REF's Festival of Trees and is credited on their website as one of only three Sponsors, so it would be great to have a good Rotary turnout for this event.  See their flyer above.  You can also find details on REF's Facebook.
Upcoming Schedule
Please take note of our upcoming schedule of meetings.  These dates are listed on the website Calendar.  (Here's a reminder that you can subscribe to the calendar and get it on your phone events are posted.)

No meeting on January 20 (Martin Luther King Day).

Our next lunch meeting is January 27.

February's lunch meetings are:  February 3 and 10.  No meeting on February 17 (Presidents' Day).

February's Evening Meeting is February 26 at Lee Kimball.  At 5:30 we will have a Dementia Friendly Reading presentation from Dementia Friendly Reading and DKJ Foundation.  At 6:30 we will socialize.  Please make every effort to attend.  Reading Rotary is becoming the first volunteer organization in Town to become certified as Dementia Friendly.

These schedule quirks were necessary due to holidays and school vacation.

Note that Board Meetings are scheduled for January 21 and February 12 at 5:30 at Northern Bank.  All members are welcome to attend.

The Polar Plunge is on February 29.  Please donate to our team or one of our Plungers if you are not going in yourself.  I also encourage everyone to attend the Plunge itself.  It is a hugely inspiring event with so many Rotarians there.
